The Legend Legacy 2.6: The Great Vacation

avaricesimsWelcome back to the Legend Legacy! In the last chapter Kali, eldest child of Generation 3, grew up and promptly put her mark on the legacy by being super cute. There were also a lot of family get togethers, and the Legends are trucking along nicely in life. What adventures will they get up to next?
Ophelia: welcome to the world, kiddo. How about we celebrate by going on vacation?!
Kali: sure! Where?
Ophelia: the creator bought Outdoor Retreat, so some place called Granite Falls.
That's right, the Legend family are off on their very first vacation!
Kali: well...there sure is a lot of nature out here.
Because the family are saving to upgrade the house, and because I wanted the full nature experience, Ophelia, Athena and Kali find themselves on a budget version of the holiday. You know what that means...a tent.
Ophelia: er...I know we're trying to save money but you'd better give me the deluxe version of this tent thing. It's going to be hard enough showering in a public loo. Jesus.
Ophelia: hmm, well this isn't too bad.
Athena: of course not! We can do this!
Kali: so, are there any other kids out here or...
For a while, the vacation goes swimmingly. Ophelia and Kali bond over some late night star gazing.
They all enjoy the burgers and other grilled food that will be their staple diet for the next three days.
Athena is REALLY into poking the fire and roasting marshmallows, she autonomously does this if left alone for longer than three seconds.
Kali sometimes joins her and looks super cute (as well as a lot more appropriately dressed) while doing so.
Athena finds a bear in the woods and gets annoyed about it.
And also tries her hand at fishing, joining a bevy of far more enthusiastic and less sparkly outdoorsy types.
...and catching absolutely no fish in the process.
Amazingly, though, she's brave enough to catch the world's largest praying mantis. Jesus Christ on a cracker, I'd run screaming from that monstrosity!
Ophelia and Kali also give the holiday a good shot, playing horseshoes (badly) long into the evening.
But eventually I realise I have made some errors in arranging this holiday. It becomes very apparent when Athena looks horrified at the prospect of beans and franks for dinner.
Ophelia: oh my god do people actually eat this?
First of all, neither Ophelia or Athena are very outdoorsy people. They have no gardening or fishing skill, and in fact are total princesses. They soon run out of things to do since neither of them can successfully fish and there are only so many plants you can pointlessly harvest, given neither of them are exactly the type to be into herbalism.
Secondly, poor Kali is the only child in all of Granite Falls. She has no one but her Moms to play with and is bored out of her skull. I should have splashed out and invited Apollo and his wife and son (a boy called Aron, if you were wondering) but I am cheap and we're halfway through the vacation time now.
I basically leave Kali to figure out her own fun, while Ophelia and Athena get to work MAKING fun for themselves!
Oo-er. Love in the woods!
Athena: hey, baby, we're having...another baby!
Yep, that's right. Out of sheer desperation and boredom the second child of Generation 3 is conceived in a tent. I can't stand looking at Athena in that jump suit for another pregnancy - especially as she ALREADY looks ridiculous in it out here in the wilderness - so she is forced into a camping appropriate look that is far more flattering to her early pregnancy figure.
Kali: ...Mom? Why are you dressed like that?
Athena: because you're getting a baby brother or sister and while my sparkly purple jumpsuit is FABULOUS it is not a good look right now.
She then cackles maniacally over some grilled fruit.
Athena: look, creator, this frumpy outfit might work out here but it's not making me love this vacation any more.
Sigh, you're right. I was so bored by this holiday at this point that I gave up playing for several weeks. I don't hate this mini expansion pack but it takes the right choices for camping companions and at least one outdoorsy Sim to make work. I probably should have gotten the restaurant expansion instead, but hindsight is twenty twenty, and I'm sure I'll have a legacy Sim to take full advantage of Granite Falls in the future.
For now, though, I revived my interest in the game by sending the Legends home a day early and installing Get Together, which was on a massive Black Friday discount.
Athena: oh thank god, my precious violin. Civilisation. Can I get changed now?
Sorry, no. I can't be bothered fashioning you a new pregnancy outfit. You can just wear that until the baby is born.
Athena: camping....clothes....inspiring...weird...hippy...creativity...
Couldn't resist mucking around with a couple of herbalism recipes on the stove. It's actually quite fun - in future, with a Sim more suited to it, I look forward to many hippy concoctions. For now Athena can just store all her ingredients in the fridge and go back to a life of modern medicine.
Kali is a sweet, nerdy kid - also not terribly enthused about the great wilderness, especially with no other kids to hang with. She seems happy to be back home with couches, books, and other creature comforts.
Ophelia is SUPREMELY relieved to get back to her social life, and a functioning bar. Artemis invited her out for ladie's night drinks and she is thrilled. She's starting to get to know Artemis better as she expands her social circle for her Friend of the World aspiration.
Kali: ahhh....this is my kind of great outdoors!
So, it wasn't the most successful vacation in the world. I don't think this family is cut out for camping, but I do look forward to revisiting Granite Falls with some different Sims in the future. The current Legends are back in civilisation with a new life on board (and yes, Ophelia managed to convince Athena that it made no sense for both of them to ruin their figures, so Athena is carrying her second Legacy baby). What adventures will they get up to next? Will the next Legend baby be as cute as Kali? Tune in next time to find out!
