Welcome back to the Legend Legacy! In the last chapter I promised a decision, and today I have one for you. The Legend family have their very first heiress...

Athena Legend! Named for the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena is a worthy, though risky, pick for heiress. As she's still a teenager there's every chance she could roll a terrible final trait, like Artemis did. But no matter how hard I try to make it work in my head, I just can't bring myself to select Artemis for heiress when she hates children. Why would she have children if she hates them? Why would she ever settle into being heiress of a legacy family at all, when birthing the next generation would be her sole crucial task? She simply wouldn't, so Athena it is. I'm really sad Art won't be passing on her flawless good looks to a new generation, but she's not moving out just yet so we'll see her early young adult days, at least.

I have loved Athena since she aged into a teen and she was always a significant contender for heiress, so I'm not at all upset about having to make her heir. I will be VERY upset if she rolls Hates Children too, though!

I still spend a lot of time with Gaia even though she's an elder and has completed her first aspiration. I really do love this Sim, she's my favourite legacy founder in a long, long time. So I send her off collecting and seeking out new plants to expand her garden some more. I'd like her to leave the family fridge really well stocked!

While waiting for the plants to grow enough to take cuttings from, she indulges in a spot of desert fishing. She's getting better, though is still far from proficient at it. It works to kill some time though and she manages to get a tomato cutting from this trip.

On the way home who should she bump into by J, dressed in Day of the Dead celebratory garb! She pauses to snap a photo of them together to mark the moment, before J - her friend of countless years - refuses to give her a Sugar Skull because he doesn't want to celebrate Day of the Dead with "a stranger or enemy". You bastard!

I think I might have it figured out, though - even if a Sim is great friends with a celebrator, they need to interact for a while and get into some kind of positive mood before they'll cough up a skull. Stingy, but the family have two skulls now (no thanks to J).

While the cat's away, the mice will play...
Athena has taken advantage of Gaia's absence to invite Ophelia around and they end up "messing around" in Gaia and Gavin's bed! I think this is a cute interaction for teenage Sims, actually. Very realistic. At least Ophelia can't get Athena pregnant!

Ophelia: actually, thanks to technological advances couples in same sex relationships can now have biological children with a mixture of both parent's DNA! I have two Mums, but I sure ain't the product of no sperm donation.

Very reassuring, Ophelia, thanks. I'm not modding teen pregnancies into this game so we're safe anyway...for now.

There, that's better. Good future legacy wife.

Apollo: so, Athena. You have a smoking hot girlfriend...what's the trick?
Athena: meet her as a child and realise you love her as more than a friend when hormones kick in, basically.

Hmm. Not so helpful for Apollo, who has no childhood friends since he had the Artistic Prodigy aspiration, rather than the social butterfly aspiration. But I decide, instead of forcing the issue by hanging out at cafes and bars, he should just do things HE enjoys and maybe he'll meet some people with common interests. Since he's creative, I send him to the museum for a little old-fashioned art appreciation.

Why appreciate art when you can work on your aspiration, though? Apollo wants to be chief of mischief and that starts with making sure he's roundly disliked, by a few people at least.
This sort of behaviour oughta do it.

Literally no matter where any of the Legend's go, J is always there. Always. His obsession with Gaia appears to have morphed into stalking her family, lovely.

Apollo: I'm all alone....there's no-one here....beside me...."

Apollo: oh, except this dude. Hah, psych!

This time, though, Apollo DOES meet a couple of people his own age.

They're even all really cute girls.

But, even though he shares some burgers with Veronica, none of them feel like a good fit for him. Sorry Apollo, none of these are your future wife.

Apollo: I know. At least this burger is good.

Athena's love life is going a lot better, thankfully. She needs to go on official dates for her aspiration and Ophelia is all too happy to oblige her beautiful girlfriend.

Who else loves the "attempt to seduce" interaction, by the way? Work it girl!

...okay...you can stop working it now...

PDA much? I love these two though, so much. Cutest couple EVAH.

It is a sad fact of life that one cannot always be happy, though. The ups must be contrasted by the downs, a life marches on at a relentless pace.

Artemis: I have a bad feeling all of a sudden. A very bad feeling.

Oh. Oh no.

Gavin passes away in front of the house he scrimped and saved and work so hard for to give his children, in the late evening. The whole family are there to witness it and mourn his loss, including Artemis with a serious personal space invasion.

Grim Reaper: stand back, lady. I'm about to smack this dead dude with my scythe, believe me you do not want to get in the way.

Gavin is given a nice tombstone and a few pretty plants to decorate his grave site, now at the back of the property.

R.I.P, Gavin Legend (nee Richards).
You were a wonderful first generation spouse. You swept Gaia off her feet when she needed a man to step up and take some responsibility for starting a family. Sadly, you never maxed your writing abilities, finished your aspiration or topped your career path, but you wrote well over 15 books and the royalties you made from them were instrumental in helping your family become comfortably well-off. Your wife was also your best friend and you shared a warm, affectionate relationship until the very end. You fathered four wonderful children and played a vital part in beginning to build a legacy for the Legend family. You will be missed!

...until you no doubt come back as a ghost, anyway.

And thus begins an extended period of mourning, and me being annoyed at a house full of mopey Sims. I don't like using things like moodlet solvers, though, because it doesn't feel terribly realistic - Gavin was a great husband and Dad, of course the family should mourn him.

Gaia's favourite way to mourn is to water the garden with her tears. At least the garden gets some TLC in the process, I suppose.

Gaia: I'm still sad. I got THREE bad moodlets: the standard death one, the widow one, and death of a friend. I'm at least three times as sad as everyone else.

Gaia: I'm just going to cry in bed for the next two days, okay?

Actually, as it happens, Zoe Patel also died sometime around this point. I think Gaia's 'death of a friend' moodlet might be from that though I'm not sure. I'm sad she didn't get to see her best friend before she died, though.

Gaia: wait, Zoe is dead too? I'll be in here for three days, don't mind me.

The twins comfort each other a lot and for some reason this works particularly well for Apollo, who is subsequently done grieving ages before everyone else.

Or maybe it was all the 'reading eulogies' he did. How morbid.

Eventually the family does recover enough to get on with their lives. Gaia manages to find a cherry tree to take a cutting from.

While Artemis drops by Aldo's house for the first time. He lives in a tiny one bedroom shithole with two woman who I can only presume are his mother and sister.

Artemis: lucky for you, Aldo, I don't mind the house. It's tiny and a bit crap but I don't have expensive taste. Your mother and sister have gotta go, however.

Artemis: it's pretty here, in the desert. I think I could live here...if you didn't live with your mother and sister. *hint hint*

This seems like a good enough idea that I do a little household management and move Aldo's family into their own place over in Willow Creek, leaving their first home to Aldo in the process.

And that brings us to the end of the first chapter of Generation 2, ft. the first death of the legacy. I really will miss Gavin, and I wish I'd worked on his stuff more, but hey - it makes sense, right? He was too busy trying to save money and make life better for his family to achieve his own goals, and that's okay. Will Artemis move in with Aldo now that he has the house to himself? And what will happen when Athena has her next birthday and receives her final trait?

You'll have to read the next chapter to find out!
